How to Make a Pizza

Making pizza at home is easier than you think! With just a few basic ingredients and some patience, you can create a delicious, fresh pizza that rivals your favorite pizzeria.

Ingredients

• For the dough:
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
• For the sauce:
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
• Toppings (choose your favorites):
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, etc.
  • Fresh basil (optional)

Instructions

1. Make the dough: In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. Add olive oil, salt, and 3 ½ cups flour. Mix until a soft dough forms.
2. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if too sticky.
3. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
4. Prepare the sauce: While the dough rises, heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15–20 minutes.
5. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
6. Punch down the risen dough and divide it in half (for two pizzas). Roll out each portion on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
7. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet or pizza peel lined with parchment paper. Spread sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
8. Add cheese and your favorite toppings.
9. Bake for 10–15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
10. Let cool for a few minutes, slice, and enjoy!

Tips

• For a crispier crust, pre-bake the dough for 3–5 minutes before adding toppings.
• Use room-temperature ingredients for better dough consistency.
• Experiment with different cheeses like provolone or parmesan for extra flavor.
